Here’s Something I’ve Had it With

So, from time to time, I’ve been known to enjoy the celebrity gossip. I know it’s kind of a terrible thing to support, but it’s mindless (which is SO nice when my brain is fried from work and school) and I like the shows like The Soup and Best Week Ever, that tend to mock celebrity gossip and pop culture. They’re fun and really mocking things has always been one of my favorite activities (not gonna lie, I’d love to be on Best Week Ever as one of those talking heads). Obviously, in trolling celebrity gossip and what not, it is fairly easy to come across upsetting trends (like the girls gone bad narrative), but here’s one I’m SO incredibly sick of: the vagina shot, made famous by Britney Spears, but replicated a million times. The one that finally threw me over the edge was the one of Emma Watson (yes, Hermione from the Harry Potter movies). Have you ever noticed how these pictures are taken? It’s ALMOST ALWAYS a picture of a young, female celebrity in a dress or skirt, sometimes wearing underwear, sometimes not, trying to get out of a car. Have you ever paid attention to how you climb out of a car? It’s always a bit awkward, there’s the slide across the seat and then the throw the legs around the side of the seat, out the door, and stand up manueveur. Try to do that with your legs 100 percent together. Then think about how trying to do that with your legs 100 percent together, while trying to exit a car with an insane number of paparazzi up in your grill. Seems impossible right?

So, let’s not forget, more often than not, these young women celebs are not sex crazed, or good girls gone bad, or necessarily having a mental breakdown because someone trying to get a shot of their underwear or vagina succeeded. The problem is a sick industry that is SO focused on creating images of oversexed, young women that it stakes out tons of people to take advantage of the fact that it is sometimes difficult to keep your legs completely together when exiting a car.
